Why I love teaching PLS courses:

Through taking and teaching these courses, I know what good teaching looks like, what it sounds like, and how to analyze student learning. If it weren't for the PLS classes, I would not have developed my skills to a level that qualified me for NBPTS certification.

Education:

  • B.S., Illinois State University
  • M.S., Illinois State University
  • C.A.S., Illinois State University

Teaching experience:

Primarily high school special needs students grades 9-12 in all areas of disabilities. This is my 26th year (2003/04)

Related experience, recognition, awards, etc.:

  • National Board Certified in the area of Early Childhood Through Young Adult Exceptional Needs Specialist
  • Teacher of the Year Award
  • Presentations at numerous district, regional and state conferences and inservice workshops
  • I'm mentoring teachers within my district and area to help them get their NBPTS certification.

What I love most about teaching:

I cannot imagine doing anything else. Where else can you make up something different every day, play, use your brain, and affect so many lives so positively?

My favorite moment in teaching:

Right after I heard I was NBPTS certified, one of my seniors from the year before came to school and brought me a book "Apples & Chalkdust," gave me a hug, and said he hoped some day he could make a difference in lives like I did… we cried.

Personal information:

Reading (of course), antiques, movies, gardening but mostly exploring new places — anywhere and everywhere.
