Why I love teaching PLS courses:

Practicing what we preach makes us real as teachers. Walking the walk and talking the talk makes participants realize the techniques we share are practical, meaningful and above all useful. The ideas we present are tried and true succesful ways of reaching and motivating students in everyday classrooms all over the world. Our common bond of teaching shows that we use ways of capturing our students’ (young and older) imaginations to make learning fun and compelling.

What I love most about teaching:

Seeing questioning eyes rather than sadness and despair are what keeps me going daily. Being a part of a large poor urban school district, sharing good, sound teaching practice allows me to not only help students but to help other teachers see that teaching and learning can be equally fun and energizing.

My favorite moment in teaching:

Seeing a nonverbal cognitively challenged youngster finally stomp their feet and say “no” means that I’ve been successful in helping them to begin to control their environment. Giving a learning disabled student a chance at developing a book to present as an author to younger students makes me invigorated as they show pride in their accomplishments.

Personal information:

Knitting, watching movies, and being with family fills my free time. Riding mountain bikes on trails and digging in the garden are just as fun as reading a book for the next book club dinner meeting with my friends.
