Favorite moment in teaching:
After 38 years of teaching, with only two days to go in the school year, I received a very memorable email. The email came from a former student who probably did not even know I was retiring. The timing was appropriate.
In 1989 Jacob Larrison was a kindergarten student of mine. He was fascinated with flying and I told him to follow his dreams. Jacob never forgot those words. His email informed me that he did in fact remember those words and followed a dream. LcPL Jacob Larrison, United States Marine Corp, is flying helicopters. Along with the note to me were two pictures of Jacob in action with the helicopter.
That was a special email that I am going to keep. It was a real tear jerker. This is one way we know why teaching can be so rewarding.
