Achievement Gap decreases 27% after Learning Styles Training

While Principal of Orleans Junior Senior High School in Orleans, Indiana, Mr. Keith Brakel employed Performance Learning Systems’ Steve Mintner to deliver Professional Development courses relating to learning styles. Due to the tremendous, positive results gained from that training, he incorporated the same training into the Professional Development plans at two different schools he later managed.
Perhaps most noteworthy are the results at Orleans Junior Senior High School, where the ISTEP test proved a gap in achievement scores of 39% between paid students and those receiving financial aid. After two years of work at the school to train teachers in accessing and teaching through learning styles, that gap was reduced to only 12%.
Research also shows that those students with kinesthetic learning styles are most commonly the behavior problems in a classroom. Changing instruction designs to incorporate this learning style can in fact decrease discipline problems.
