Graduate Course Description

Overview

This online course is designed for elementary school teachers to deepen their knowledge, appreciation, and understanding of elementary mathematics. Participants will use the NCTM Content and Process Strands as a vehicle for understanding what elementary students need to know and be able to do in math. They will also investigate strategies for developing mathematical literacy and fostering logical thinking. Students of this online course will explore methods and suggestions for increasing student engagement and interest in the subject of mathematics. In addition, all modules will model research-based strategies for teaching elementary mathematics and engage students in discussion on the use of these strategies.

Time Requirement: 6-8 hours per week

Course Format: Eight-week, facilitator-led with weekly assignments, and 24/7 online access
