SAS for Pennsylvania Educators™
Overview
Explore a comprehensive approach to student achievement through the Pennsylvania Standards Aligned System (SAS). With a focus on the concepts and strategies on which the portal is based, you will navigate the six portal components as you design standards-based lessons. Discover the power of utilizing SAS to align standards, assessments, the curriculum framework, instruction, and resources in a safe and supportive learning environment. Work collaboratively to develop standards-based instruction designed to enhance student performance, build learning and life skills, and foster lifelong learning. (This course meets the requirements for conversion to Level II Certification.)
- Improve student learning and academic achievement.
- Navigate the SAS portal to access a comprehensive approach to planning curriculum.
- Engage in the collaborative design of standards-aligned lessons that integrate research-based strategies.
This course meets level II certification requirements for the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE)*.
This course is designed and intended for educators in the state of Pennsylvania only.
Important Note About Course Content
Please note that this course is designed only in part to teach SAS portal navigation. Most of the course experience focuses on aligning the SAS components to your teaching situation. If you wish to take a course offering an in-depth SAS navigation experience, check with your IU.
Please note that this course is designed to provide an introduction to SAS portal navigation. You will explore the SAS portal components with a focus on the concepts and strategies on which the portal is based. If you wish to take a course offering an in-depth SAS navigation experience, check with your IU.
Required Portal Access
If your site is not equipped with Internet and computer access to the SAS Portal you will be required to spend approximately five to seven hours outside of class accessing and navigating the SAS Portal. Seat time in class will be adjusted accordingly.
Target Audience: All K-16 educators in the state of Pennsylvania
Graduate Credit: 3 semester hours
*Educators who were issued instructional certificates after September 22, 2007, and have not completed all level II coursework prior to September 1, 2011 will be required to earn at least six post-baccalaureate credits in the areas of Inclusive Classrooms or Standard Aligned Systems in order to meet the requirements for conversion to level II.
